CARE

CARE is Gladstone Park Secondary College’s pastoral care and wellbeing program, running for every student from Year 7 to Year 9. Delivered in one lesson per week, CARE sits alongside students’ core subjects and gives them a dedicated space to focus on wellbeing, resilience, and personal growth throughout their time in the junior and middle school.

The program is built around the Resilience Project framework and works through a broad range of topics as students move through each year level — including emotional literacy, personal and cultural strengths, positive coping, problem solving, stress management, help-seeking, and positive gender relationships. Lessons are discussion-based and skills-focused, helping students build the confidence, communication, and self-awareness they’ll rely on both in and out of the classroom. Some of the projects and activities students have worked on include:

  • researching, designing, and producing tiles for the whole-school Islamic Tiling Project;
  • completing a Career Action Plan and navigating subject selection for the following year;
  • exploring affirmative consent, the law, and healthy relationships through scenario-based tasks;
  • taking part in Harmony Week and Cultural Diversity Week activities celebrating students’ cultural identities; and
  • marking wellbeing initiatives such as RUOK Day and Indigenous Literacy Day.
